Guidance Planner

In high school, students explore who they are, where they fit, at what they excel and how to move forward. Because high school is a time of decisions, students should participate in a comprehensive and developmental school counseling program that promotes and enhances the learning process.

The purpose of the school counseling program is to impart specific skills and learning opportunities in a pro-active, preventive manner, ensuring all students can achieve school success through academic, career, and personal/social development experiences.

The freshman program focuses on the transition between elementary and secondary levels, adjusting to the Nazareth environment and preliminary career planning and college exploration. Freshman begin a personal "Planning for Life" portfolio, designed to stimulate the self-exploration process as freshman embark on career and college planning. Counselors and students revisit this porfolio each year.

Counselors assist juniors in small groups and in one-on-one sessions to refine their college search to best fit their academic, career and personal aspirations. Nazareth offers juniors an SAT preparatory program in mathematics during their lunch periods and incorporates prep work across their academic curriculum. Juniors are encouraged to do scholarship searches.

Seniors focus on college visits, applying to colleges, and financial aid considerations. While seniors await decisions from the schools of their choice, counselors encourage them to actively search for and apply for scholarships.
