Summer Counseling Programs

The following opportunities are available to all NAHS students who meet program qualifications. Application deadlines vary; it is the student's responsibility to meet all program deadlines in a timely fashion.

Biomedical Sciences for High School Students

Course work is as follows:

Week One: Molecular Biology
Week Two: Cell Biology and Protein Chemistry
Week Three: Pathology and Anatomy
Week Four: Molecular Mechanisms of Disease

Application deadline is April 23, 2010 and the program fee is $2,200.



University of Pennsylvania | July 7 - July 30, 2010
2010 Summer Academy in Applied Science and Technology

Take your interest in science and math to the next level and apply it to cutting-edge technology in Biotechnology, Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Nanotechnology, or Robotics for a three-week course. Application deadline is March 25th. Please see Miss Armstrong for more details.



Boston University

Various programs running through June, July, and August, each costing $1,100.

High School Honors: 6-week residential program where students take two BU undergraduate courses, earning up to 8 transferable college credits

Research Internship in Science & Engineering: 6-week residential program where students work in a lab conducting scientific research under the guidance of a faculty mentor

Summer Challenge : 2-week residential program. Enrolling in two non-credit seminars designed specifically for the program, students can explore the subjects of abnormal psychology, business, creative writing, engineering, history of Boston, infectious diseases, international politics, journalism, law, mass communication, nutrition, persuasive writing, topics in philosophy, and visual arts.

Summer Preview : 2-week commuter program in which students can delve into one subject and look ahead to the college experience. Students choose from either Discovering Biology or Learning the Art of Writing.

The College of William and Mary
1st session: June 27 - July 17, 2010; 2nd session: July 18 - August 7, 2010

Select from either course: "From the Found of Jamestown through the American Revolution" or "From the American Revolution through the American Civil War." Both courses will be offered during both sessions.

Liberal Arts Program: June 27 - July 24,2010; two courses from a variety of topics over 4 weeks

Liberal Arts Intensive: June 27 - July 2, 2010; one course on a variety of topics over 1 week

Young Women's Leadership Institute : July 11 - July 17, 2010; class in womens' studies and workshops on leadership

Class topics include: Architecture, Art, Theater and Film, Psychology, Sociology, Writing, Literature, International Affairs, Economics, Music, Dance, Urban Studies, Art History, English as a Second Language.

Also offered by the iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Techonology, is the Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) -- formerly known as the PA Governor's School of Excellence for Information, Society and Technology.

DUCA is a five-week course open to current high school sophomores and juniors. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement and an interest in exploring computer and information science. Students who successfully complete the program and subsequently enroll at Drexel University will receive a $3,000 renewable scholarship. For more information, visit www.drexel.edu/duca.

Community College of Philadelphia | July 12 - July 16, 2010

CCP offers two 1-week science summer camps from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Camp One focuses on Engineering as applied to solving real world problems. Camp Two focuses on Forensics from the perspectives of both Biology and Chemistry.

Each camp is free and each will be open to 20 registrants. Deadline for submission is April 14, 2010. See Miss Armstrong for an application.



Columbia University

Columbia is offering three study program opportunities for high school students. These are:

Study in Barcelona at the University of Barcelona
Immerse yourself in Barcelona's history and culture with courses in art, architecture, urban development and Spanish language.

Study in New York City at Columbia University
Courses offered include the arts, sciences, law, business, engineering, politics, college prep, and liberal arts.

Study the Middle East at Columbia and King's Academy in Jordan
Explore the history and culture of the Arab world, with travel and study in New York and Jordan.

Freedom Alliance Military Leadership Academy

Fort Pickett, VA | July 4 - 17 and July 25 - August 7

Experiences in Architecture 2010 | July 12 - 30, 2010

An intense 3-week workshop for students interested in architecture or other design related fields. The program includes: field sketching, visits to practicing architects, field trips throughout Washington D.C., museum visits, and studio design projects. Philadelphia University: Tomorrow's Successful Leaders Conference

June 28 - July 1, 2010 | Early Registration fee: $450; after 4/15: $495

This conference will allow students to:

• Capture a better appreciation of role models and leaders throughout life, from forefathers through today.

• Acknowledge the importance of goal setting in everyday life, and learn basic principles to set, and acheive, goals.

• Learn to avoid budget busters in early adult life in order to live a financially successful life. This will include goal setting for personal and financial priorities.

• Participate in hands-on opportunities with a community project, realizing the parallel of successful living with successful leading within your own community.

• Develop leadership tools and personal resources to make the most out of every life situation moving forward.
