Performing Arts Opportunities
Orchestra
Orchestra members share their musical talents by performing att various school functions throughout the year. Any musician in our school can become an orchestra member. You must know how to play an instrument and have one available. We also have a variety of instruments available to lend to interested students.
Chamber Ensemble
The Chamber Ensemble is an instrumental ensemble of advanced players directed by Dr. Peter Nocella.
Grant Avenue Jazz Band
The Grant Avenue Jazz Band is a group of advanced musicians who challenge their musical talents by playing and performing instrumental jazz. The group participates in area festivals and competitions each year. Musicians must play the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, keyboard, guitar, bass or drums to be a member. The group is directed by Mr. Tom Tolnay.
Chorus
The Chorus offers girls the opportunity to express themselves musically through song. They perform at school concerts and special activities. This is a group for those who love to sing and want to learn to participate in a choir. No auditions are required; however, a strong commitment to the group is expected. The group is directed by Mr. David Hall.
Chorale
The Chorale is a group of advanced musicians who challenge their musical talents vocally. The Chorale enters competitions and performs at school assemblies and recitals. An audition is required for membership. The group is directed by Mr. David Hall.
Jazz Choir
The Jazz Choir is an extension of the Chorale. The girls sing to jazz music and perform dance steps to the songs. The group is directed by Mr. David Hall.
Dance Club
The Nazareth Academy Dance Club is a place where students can show off their dance moves. Even though there are no try-outs to get in, Mrs. Monari, the choreographer, asks that the girls know some of the basic steps for tap, ballet, and jazz. There's no need to worry about listening to those classical instrumental ballet songs, or those old jazzy classics. The music that is used is modern and usually everyone's favorite. The Dance Club meets every Wednesday after school to learn their routines.
Vocal and instrumental lessons
Lessons are offered for beginners and advanced students, individually and in groups. Please contact the Music Department at 215.268.1072 for more information.
