Class of 2028 Honors Algebra 2 Teacher Recommendation

We are in the process of selecting appropriate classes for each of your students who will attend Nazareth Academy High School. Students who have been taught Algebra 1 in 8th grade are invited to take an exam for placement into Honors Algebra 2. A recommendation from a student’s current math teacher is required for any student wishing to take the placement exam. Thank you for your assistance in placing these students in the proper classes.

The following topics will be covered in the Honors Algebra 2 placement test:

Solving Linear and Quadratic Equations, Absolute Value
Linear Inequalities
Algebraic Exponents
Factoring and Multiplying Polynomials
Operations involving Algebraic Fractions
Graphing of points and lines on a Coordinate Plane - line given in both standard and in slope-intercept form
Identifying slope, y-intercept
Give the equation of a line when given a slope & a point, 2 points, and a line parallel to the original line
Solving systems of equations
Problem Solving - Area, Distance, Mixture, Factoring of Polynomials

*Please note:
1. No calculators will be used during this test.
2. The test consists of three parts: 1) multiple choice questions, 2) student generated response problems requiring work process shown, 3) a 10-minute timed test on integer and fraction operations.
3. All students placed in Honors Algebra 2 must be able to grasp concepts quickly and have a complete mastery of junior high math skills.
