Music Scholarship
Please note: Those awarded the Music Scholarship must be enrolled as both a Music Major and a Music Minor upon entering Nazareth as a student and must take a private lesson on their Major instrument with a NAHS faculty member. Music Scholars are also required to maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.5 GPA in their Music courses.
Music Scholarship Audition for Vocalists and Instrumentalists

- After your daughter has registered for an audition, you will be contacted in early November to coordinate her audition time on November 18th.
- Students who sing and play an instrument, or instrumentalists who play a second instrument (even at a lower level) are encouraged to audition on both instruments and play whatever they can on their secondary instrument.

Requirements for Voice
- Prepare the song Take My Heart by Orlando di Lasso in the key that is appropriate for your voice.

- An accompanist will be provided for the audition.
Requirements for Piano and Organ
*Nazareth has a piano/organ available for the audition.
- Play at least two (2) octaves of two (2) Major Scales and their relative Harmonic Minor Scale hands together.
- Any scale of your choosing
- One of the following:
- A Major/f# minor
- Bb Major/g minor
- E Major/c# minor
- Eb Major/c minor
- Play the principle chords of the same keys (Major and Minor). (I-IV-V7 or i-iv-V7)
- Prepare a solo work from the baroque, classical, romantic, or 20th/21st century era. No pop piece or arrangement of classical works is permitted.
Requirements for Percussion
*Nazareth has percussion available for the audition.
Mallet Percussion
- Play at least two (2) octaves of any Major Scale and a Harmonic Minor Scale of your choosing on a mallet instrument (e.g. marimba).
- Perform a composition on a mallet instrument.
- Play basic snare drum rudiments.
- Play basic rock and jazz beats on set.
Snare Drum (non-pitched percussion)
- Play the following rudiments:
- Long roll (closed)
- 5-stroke roll (open and closed)
- 9-stroke roll (open and closed)
- Flam
- Paradiddle
- Optional: Play basic rock and jazz beats on set.
Requirements for String and Woodwind Instruments
- Play at least two (2) octaves of all Major Scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats.
- C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb, Ab
- Play a Harmonic Minor Scale of your choosing (two octaves).
- Prepare a technical etude or a short solo work from the baroque, classical, romantic, or 20th/21st century era. No pop piece or orchestra/ensemble music is permitted.
Requirements for Brass Instruments
- Play at least one (1) octave of any Major Scale up to 4 sharps and 4 flats. It is highly encouraged to play two octaves.
- Play a Harmonic Minor Scale of your choosing (1-2 octaves).
- Prepare a technical etude or a short solo work from the baroque, classical, romantic, or 20th/21st century era. No pop piece or orchestra/ensemble music is permitted.
