Honoring Our Class of 2020
May 10. 2020
Dear Seniors, Parents and Guardians,
Happy Mother's Day to the moms of our seniors! We hope you all have a beautiful day. You are a true blessing, especially to your Nazareth daughter, a member of the Class of 2020.
It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces this week when we delivered the caps and gowns and the signs this week to our Senior Class. Graduation announcements were included with the caps and gowns. We do have a limited supply still available and if anyone would like to request additional graduation announcements, please email Ms. Michele Konicki at mkonicki@nazarethacademyhs.org. Additional announcements will be distributed on a first come, first served basis to any family that makes a request.
As expected, on Thursday, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced an extension of the mitigation in the Philadelphia area until June 4th. The plan that we shared on April 29th to honor the Class of 2020 remains in place. Despite these unusual times, we are excited to celebrate our graduates! For the first steps of the plan, giving each senior her moment on our Chapel steps beginning on May 18th, the below procedures were shared with the students on Friday, May 8th:
- If there is an emergency that prevents you from keeping your appointment please email Mr. Meredith and we will reschedule your appointment.
- Arrive via the Grant Avenue entrance and the senior will be checked in when her car reaches the traffic circle.
- If you arrive before your designated time, please wait on Grant Avenue west bound side in the parking lane. Security will allow entrance at your designated time.
- One car per family is permitted inside the circle to stop at the bottom of the Chapel entrance steps.
- For parents who live in different households, a second car is permitted inside the circle, but please email Mr. Meredith 24 hours before your appointment so arrangements can be made for your check in.
- Only the senior, dressed in her cap and gown, will walk up the Chapel steps to receive her diploma once her name is announced.
- The diploma will be on a table on the porch at the top of the steps, once the senior receives her diploma she can face her family watching from the bottom of the steps for pictures.
- Only family members from the car inside the circle may get out of their car for pictures.
- Nazareth Academy High School will record each students' moment and seventy-nine moments of the Class of 2020 will be compiled and shared with the seniors and their families on the morning of May 29th.
- This process must conclude within 15 minutes so the next senior can begin her moment on time.
- After the senior and her family takes pictures, she will give her cap and gown to her parents who will move immediately to the lower lot.
- After receiving her diploma, each senior must enter school to:
- Return items such as textbooks, World Language workbooks, sports uniforms, Chorale dresses, Chorus and Chorale music to the Main Office.
- Gather any of their personal belongings still remaining at school, including anything from lockers or art projects from the Art Room.
- After checking out at the Main Office, the senior will depart school via the Gym Lobby doors and leave campus in her family car, waiting at the bottom of the gym steps to exit via the Stevenson Lane gate.
For graduation attire:
- Wear cap, gown, stole, and honor cords, if that applies. Honor cords, once they arrive, will be given to seniors in advance of their walk up the steps.
- Under the gown, wear something white or light-colored.
Every senior has confirmed her appointment. Every senior also has her cap and gown. We are grateful for your cooperation in this process. Again, this process has been planned so every senior has her moment, but we do so in a manner that is safe and appropriate. We are so excited to provide each senior and family their moment. While this celebration is not "graduation," physical or virtual, it does recognize each senior by giving her and her family their own time to celebrate in advance of May 29th. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mr. Meredith.
Congratulations to our Class of 2020!
May the Holy Family of Nazareth bless you and keep you and your families safe.
Sincerely,
Denise LePera James Meredith
President Principal
