Honoring Our Class of 2020
May 24, 2020
Dear Seniors, Parents and Guardians,
Thank you to all for being present for your diploma moment at the Chapel steps this week. It was wonderful to see all of your smiling faces and to witness your special moment. We are also grateful to all of you for keeping your appointments as we rolled throughout the week. The diploma ceremonies this week met our expectations to reflect the unprecedented times in which we live, as we honored our seniors in a very unique, but still a very Nazareth way. While this celebration was not "graduation," physical or virtual, it did recognize each senior by giving her and her family their own time to celebrate in advance of May 29th. We look forward to more events to Honor our Class of 2020 this week!
Class Day Senior Awards: May 27th Class Day Awards for seniors will be shared virtually on Wednesday, May 27th at 11:00 am. Award recipients will receive their awards via mail within the first two weeks of June.
Any graduation awards will be presented at our public graduation.
Senior Slideshow: May 28th The annual Senior Slideshow will be shared as a link via email with all seniors on Thursday, May 28th.
Senior Salute and Senior Salute Service Opportunity: May 29th Throughout the day on May 29th, various video tributes to honor of Class of 2020 will be shared broadly via social media, highlighted by the video complied from the seventy-nine moments from May 18th-22nd. A link for this video will be shared with all seniors and their parents and guardians via email at 10 am, before it is shared broadly.
The Senior Salute will begin on May 29th at 12:00 pm. At this time, according to homeroom, every senior, dressed in her cap and gown, will be to travel to the Nazareth Academy High School campus in one car per family, entering via the Stevenson Lane gate. Each senior will receive her 2020 yearbook when she arrives.
During the Senior Salute, the senior, riding with her family, will travel a designated course through the entire parking lot where she will be celebrated by faculty and staff along the course before departing via Grant Avenue. We also encourage you to decorate your car for the occasion! This celebration will be accomplished in a way that salutes each senior and maintains safe social distancing. All seniors and their families must remain in their car for the Senior Salute. We know there will be a lot of excitement, as there should be, but we need to maintain safety. We are grateful for your cooperation.
Here is the schedule for Senior Homeroom arrival:
Possible Rain Date In the event of rain, since we do not have a canopy large enough to cover the entire campus, the rain date for the Senior Salute will be Monday, June 1st, following the original time schedule. If there is a change, this will be communicated via School Messenger by 10:00 am on May 29th.
Service Project During the Senior Salute on May 29th, all seniors are strongly encouraged to participate in a service opportunity when they arrive on campus by donating non-perishable items to benefit the homeless, who are among the many vulnerable in society impacted during the pandemic. Abiding by social distance guidelines and through the help of the Community Service Corps and our Nazareth community, all items collected will be donated to the Homeless Outreach Services for the City of Philadelphia.
Items needed are:
The drop off bin will be at Nazareth on May 29th during the Senior Salute. Special thanks to McKenzie Tobler, '20, and Mrs. Bridie Tobler for their help and support in organizing this project.
After the salute, please remember to maintain and care for your graduation attire, including cap, tassel, stole, and honor cords. Graduates will need to wear this graduation garb again for our public Class of 2020 Baccalaureate and Graduation, when the guidelines permit these events.
If you have any questions or concerns about the Senior Salute, please email Mr. Meredith.
Congratulations to our Class of 2020! We love you, we miss you, and we cannot wait to see you on Friday for the Senior Salute!
May the Holy Family of Nazareth bless you and keep you safe.
Sincerely,
Denise LePera James Meredith President Principal
